Here’s when I know a production is worth recommending: one of my children talks about it well after the performance is over. We went to see the new theatrical production of Angela Ballerina The Musical 3 weeks ago and my daughter still asks when we can go back…and she’s a 2 year old with the memory of a fly!

We recently got a chance to check out Angelina Ballerina the Musical, presented by the Vital Theatre Company and Hit Entertainment. My almost 3 year old daughter and I fell in love with this amazing dancing mouseling and her friends. In the musical, Angelina and her friends, Alice, Gracie, AZ and Vicki, and their teacher, Miss Mimi are excited when the beautiful ballerina, Serena, comes to their school to watch them perform. Based on the PBS KIDS series, Angelina: The Next Steps, we loved watching all the types of dances: ballet, hip hop, modern dance, and Irish Step dancing.

Angelina Ballerina has been a favorite of little girls, and some boys, for about 25 years. When we heard that it was being adapted into a musical we needed to check it out. Angelina Ballerina the Musical playing at New York’s Vital theatre through January 2, 2011 was full of energy and fun for adults as well as children. The venue itself was small and intimate, maybe about 10 rows and very comfortable. Even the smallest child had a great view. The show was only about an hour long which was long enough for most little girls that were in attendance.
